Limpopo was originally named the Northern Transvaal but at the turn of the century it changed to Limpopo because the Limpopo River is the prominent feature of the province. Limpopo is the source of endless fascination with its wildlife sanctuaries, game reserves and national parks that create the original wilderness, sparkling trout waters and hot mineral springs.

The Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park is one of the tourist attractions in Southern Africa this is a joint initiative with Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
